We just had an excellent lunch at Candies and as I was visiting Mumbai, I got all excited when I spotted the Häagen-Dazs outlet on our way to lunch. we skipped dessert at Candies and arrive here. The Valet was not up to the mark but did take our car. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and presented with an album sort of menu in which the photographs were sumptuous and mouth-watering, to say the least.
Make no mistake, this is not your general, step in for an ice cream kind of place, this is an absolutely upscale restaurant with prices that I do not think justify the quality or the presentation skills of the staff available.
I asked for the Belgian Waffle Dream but was informed that the dulce de leche was unavailable which was kind of pathetic as this is an international joint and the Belgian Waffle Dream must be one of their best sellers. My friend opted for the one with the Apple Pie. We went to the ice cream counter to chose our ice creams, I picked mine, I think it was the Macadamia nut. Our plates arrived and were definitely poorly presented or should I say, they fell behind when compared to the photographs in the menu. I asked for an extra pancake and that was as miserable as a pancake could get.
On the other end was my friends dessert, the Apple Pie was completely different to what was shown on the menu, this was a Tart. We began demolishing the carefully put together food pieces, and I realised at my first spoon that I was served a wrong flavour of ice cream. This was the deal breaker for me. It was not like the place was flowing with customers, there was one another table occupied and about 6 staff available on the premises. Worse was to follow, when I asked about this, there was no apology, there was no expression to express that a mistake had been made, the impression I got from the person serving me was, “can’t you just have what is served to you, you already had a spoon of it”. He asked me if he wanted me to get another plate of the entire dessert or just the scoop on the side.
It was disgusting that he got me the correct scoop on a new plate and I scooped out the wrong scoop and gave it back to me. The whole experience was ruined. What I would have liked was to have a new plate of dessert served to me and the one I had taken back. During this, the plate was a gooey mess. I did not like the waffle either. I had to explain to that guy that he need to apologise when something like this happened, the pity was that he seemed like he was the supervisor or someone in charge.
We walked out disappointed with the whole experience.
